Champion's Printed Wares

An under-glaze blue transfer printed Bristol mug, c1775.  The height is 5.6 inches (14.2 cm).  It was formerly in the Trapnell collection (it may be number 20).  See also Mackenna's "Champion's Bristol Porcelain" (figure 7).

A Bristol under-glaze blue transfer printed plate, c1775.  The diameter is 8 inches (20.3 cm).  It is printed with flowers and a complex border, is unmarked and has a double foot-rim.  See Mackenna's "Champion's Bristol Porcelain" (figure 40) for a similar plate.

A moulded coffee cup printed in under-glaze blue, c1775.  The height is 2.5 inches (6.4 cm).  See Owen,  page 83, for a reference to the softer glaze found on this cup, which was only used on under-glaze printed wares.  Owen says that this was not developed until after Champion took over the factory, hence the date.  The glaze on this example has crazed.  This appears to be an experimental piece.  Unmarked.

A coffee cup printed in over-glaze purple with a puce wash.  Probably c1775.  The height is 2.4 inches (6.2 cm).  Unmarked.

An over-glaze printed mug c1775.  Height 3.7 inches.  Unmarked.

A Bristol saucer dish with a printed outline.  Diameter 8.2 inches (20.8 cm).  Unmarked.
