Arnee Frank
Arnee (a quaker like his father) was born in Old Market, on 22nd September 1776, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Frank. He was later described as ironmonger, cutler and pin maker, and he died in 1859. He served an apprenticeship in Somerset, but was back in Bristol on 12th February 1788, when the Quaker meeting at Milverton sent a favourable reference about him to the Bristol meeting (Bristol record office SF/A/7/8)
The following appeared in the Bristol Gazette on 9th September 1791: "Cutlery, hardware and ironmongery. Edward Waring (late apprentice to John Lury) and Arnee Frank, respectfully inform their friends and the public that they have opened a shop, at No. 1, Corner of Bridge Street, where they will be supplied with articles in the above branches wholesale and retail on reasonable terms, where all favors will be gratefully received and acknowledged. N B A good assortment of the real Pontypool and other Japan wares, table knives and forks, London tea urns, bath and pantheon stove grates, &c.".
His first wife, Edith, died on 22nd August 1799, in St James's parish, Arnee being described as a cutler. They had at least three children: Elizabeth, born on 30th March 1793, in Bridge Street, St Peter's parish; Edward Bourne, born on 27th September 1796, also in Bridge Street; and Edith, born on 4th July 1798, in St James's Barton, St James's parish. Edward Bourne died on 11th December 1822, in Union Street, St James's parish, when he was described as an ironmonger. Edith was born in 1770 the daughter of Robert Lovell (1746-1804) and his first wife Edith Bourne whom he married 11th May 1768. Robert Lovell had a second wife Lydia Hill (1754-1816).
He married his second wife Hannah Benwell, of Sidcott, on 5th April 1805, when he was described as an ironmonger. They had at least four children: Mary, born on 21st August 1806, in Church Street, St James's parish; John, born on 9th September 1809; Anna, born 9th June 1812; and Richard, born on 2nd January 1816. The last three were all born in Upper Easton, St George's parish. Richard died on 7th January 1834, in College Street, St Augustine's parish.
